Friday midnight, Radio 2

Until recently, I was a night-time HGV driver, and, sad as it might sound, the highlight of my week was Friday midnight-3am - Mark Lamarr used to be good, then there was a bit of a lull, but Huey Morgan is even better than Jools Holland on a Monday or Jamie Cullum on Tuesday

Did anyone listen to the 'Jimmy Young at 90' programme on radio2 last night?
Now there was a guy who had the balance just about right - always polite, but asked the questions which were burning in my mind, rather than trying to compete with the toadies and prima donnas of radio4 and bbc2 - and, believe it or not, his gentle approach sometimes lulled his interviewees into giving more stuff away - i would really like to be able to hear some recordings of the smalltalk which took place whilst the music was playing...

If the questions were burning then you had the wrong gas mark setting.
And it is Sir Jimmy Young as he got a knighthood for decades of fawning sycophancy.0 -

One of his greatest pleasures was to get equal numbers of yes-votes and no-votes!

TruckerT you have changed my mind. How does it help any issue if there are equal yes and no votes.

Call Jeremy Vine - he knows the answer to everything

I think Jeremy Vine should be the next Hugh Denis. Jeremy Paxman will be given recipes to read out at the end of Newsnight rather than speculative newspaper headlines.

I listened to You and Yours the other day for the first time in ages, and there was a really annoying interviewer who started every single sentence with the phrase 'I'm sorry to interrupt'
The Today people are the worst - if they're not stuttering over 'today's papers', they're forever trying to dominate the person they are supposed to be giving airtime to, as if they're like the judges on X-factor or something, and paid to be a major part of the 'show'. I remember an interview with Robin Day and he was asked what he might have done differently with his life - he replied that he would like to be able to be certain that he had done something really useful

If you like old fogies talking then consider the documentary, "Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara."
Stuck with slanty Is in italics now. It is strange that his middle name was Strange.
