Some region 1 DVDs that I have will play on my Region 2 only DVD player, but others don't. I'm surprised that any of them play at all. According to the DVD drive on my PC, the R1 disks that play on my ordinary DVD player are shown as all regions (1 2 3 4 5 6 ALL). Yet the disk is labelled as region 1 only. So far as I can see these disks are legal originals - not copies. Can anyone explain why this happens? Has the disk been modified in some way?

You could always make youe DVD player multiregion by inputing a code into the handset, alot of DVD players can be made multiregion now
Some region 1 DVD's have added region protection called regional code enhancement (RCE) which cannot be played on some multiregion machines as the RCE discs ask the DVD player 2 questions
1) does the player support region 2 discs
2) does the player support any other region
If the player comes back and says it supports more than 1 region then it won't allow the disc to be played0 -

Thanks. I have another player that is multiregion so it is not a problem. Just interested why some region 1 disks seem to be actually all regions0 -
I noticed a couple of years ago that some movies from small studios listed a region code on the box and DVD but they did not seem to implement the regional coding on the actual disc. Don't know if it was a case of coming from a small studio they never included the region coding or unless they forgot to add it?0
