i'm planning on buying a freeview recorder. nothing flash. just one that can record while i'm watching TV and possibly record whilst watching what i have already recorded.
but if i buy one, do i have to switch it on to just watch the TV and channels i get on freeview built into the TV, or can i just watch TV without the box being switched on?
hope i make sense.

Will not need to be switched on but will need to be plugged in and on standby, if not the loop through for the RF feed will not work. At least it doesn't on mine (Humax and LG)0

thanks for the answer to that question, heres another.
i switch my TV off at the mains during the day and night, if i want to record something will i have to leave the TV on standby, or will having the freeview recorder switched on and set to record be enough?SPC 0370 -
As long as the freeview box is switched on/on standby (has power), and it is plugged directly into the aerial, it will record fine.0
