HP Printer problem

Options
I have an HP PSC 1410 all in one printer, scanner and copier.

Its always been ok but recently its started printing a "test page" after each item I print - even if its just one page of work. Its a terrible waste of paper and ink!

The test page is what you use to align ink when you first change a cartridge. You print the page, put it through a scan and thats it. Ive even tried scanning one of the pages that have printed to see if that would stop it but it wont.

Ive googled but cant see a solution - anyone any ideas please?

You have to use Internet Explorer but this will look for the latest drivers

If it finds any, install them and see if there is any change, if not, try here

Lexmark did and they may have to reverse it, though theirs was a firmware update which may be the only way of doing it as it seems likely if it could have been sneaked in with a software update, it would have been

Haven't heard anything about others doing a similar thing

    Hope it is this simple

  • HP do a Firmware update that lock out refill/compatible carts but it only affects machines that take 364, 920 and 940 series cartridges.

    Back on topic.
We had a customer with this problem and it turned out to be a dodgey cartridge, not saying it's definatly the reason for your problem but worth checking.

thanks inter, but Ive tried changing cartridges and cleaning them and cleaning the electrical connection things.

Its AFTER a print job that the test page prints. Its very odd.

download the latest driver package from hp site, then completely uninstall and delete old software, then install the new version you've just downloaded. Have found loads of problems with all-in-ones, hp being the worst of them This method usually works though...just be prepared to do it again sometime down the line

I think that will be the next thing Jack. Currently Ive just disabled the facility which checks the ink levels. Im hoping that it could be the problem - hoping against hope that is.

If all else fails except the "out the window" cure - which out of a bad bunch is the best small all in one please?
