how do i get an Internet (virtual) phone number

How do i get an Internet phone number .
OK my brother has an Internet phone number and a UK 028 phone number .
My brother doesnt live in the UK but if I phone him on his 028 ***** number I am billed as a local call (free ) .

how would I go about setting up a number for me .
I want it more for incoming calls than outgoing if that makes any difference

    No monthly fee. Just register on the site and you get a free number with free incoming calls even in you don't use it for outgoing.

    I have registered and got my free number but I cant find any software to download to use it .Do i still need to pay the £5.90 credit its quoting on the site if I only want it for incoming calls .

    If you decide that this form of communication is for you and you might want to make more use of it in future you may want to consider a full voip solution. Basically you would need a small box called an ATA which plugs directly into your ADSL modem/router and a telephone (landline or DECT) plugs into the box.

    This has the major advantage that you do not need your computer switched on to make or receive calls and it is active 24/7 just like a 'real' telephone.

    You just need to consider if this expense is worth the amount of use you would make of it.

    Ideal if like me, you have cable broadband as you can dump the landline.

    I did ask him but his set up is different to mine .His was set up using NTL ,i cant get NThell
