I am going to try to do this to help a neighbours grandson who has a game saved half way through on it, getting the hdd out and putting into a usb case I have and putting to the pc is not a problem, but the last time I tried this I could not access my data which was in a named drive. This was Vista.
How do you get around this?
Thanks DG

Normally you'll have that issue if you don't have full admin rights. If you can't access the folder you need to log in with an account that has full admin rights, right click the folder > properties > security and add permissions for the user you want to be able to access it0

just put them hard drive into another pc and access it via your hard drive, that way any permissions set wont be active.
just copy the files off.0 -

You may find as well as following Scheming_Gypsy's advice above that you will need to click on Advanced, Owner, highlight Administrator (or the username you're currently logged in with) and Take Ownership of the files.0 -
Thanks guys, slight delay while I located my usb case and cable:o eventually found where I should have looked first. Luckily they had not set it up for users, so no problems.
I don't suppose anyone know where Minecraft keep their saved files do you?
Thanks to you all
