Games Computer for Xmas?

Options
I've done a search honest before posting as I thought what Im asking would have been asked a 100 times before!
But I couldn't find anything.

My 15 year old daughter has asked for gaming computer for Xmas now I think they would be around 700 pounds for a good machine. I'm not prepared to pay anything close to that and have suggested that she has a games console as it would be much cheaper!

However she is adamant, she has a basic dell 2g at present which isn't up to playing games.

My question is can I build/buy a decent gaming computer for a couple of hundred quid or am I on a hide to nothing? I'm happy to buy a new processor, graphic card and memory and add it to her computer but will it be more than that to upgrade?
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

What kind of gaming does she do, i take it when you say gaming at a cost of £700 you mean games like WOW and the sims and the like. Depends what the current machine is and if you could add a new g/card and new ram.

Post up as much information about what you already have.

    Monitor , keyboard as well.

Then it is time to find out off the daughter what kind of games she wants to play.

I take it she is a student ? this may help for operating systems.
