Van Hire Recommendations?
Hi,
I have recently been offered a job in Galway, Ireland, and after getting some quotes from moving companies I am wondering if it would be cheaper to hire a van and drive my stuff over myself?
So can anyone recommend a good hire company that would allow me to do this? Or is it not even worth going down this route because of insurance, etc?
Many thanks

Depends on the surcharge to pickup at one depot then drop it off in ireland if they will allow it.
Know anyone that wants a free weekend away, Who can drop the van back home?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Check out the cost of ferry crossings. Plenty of moans on MSE about the increase in cost of ferries over the Irish Sea.The man without a signature.0

I did something similar, sis in law moved back from England to NI.
Rental companies charge loads for pickup and dropoff at different sides of the Irish Sea. What I did was hire a van in NI, drive over to her (via Dublin - Holyhead) load the van up, then back up again the next day and got the overnight ferry back to Dublin. You could do a variation on this with a few caveats - mostly the insurance will cover Europe, but you need to check that you've coverage for both islands, and the other one is that this only works if you can fit everything into one van load. Oh, and that your licence covers you to drive that van, check sizes.0 -
Don't forget to factor in the cost of the ferry crossing. Costs for a large van on the ferry are likely to be vastly more expensive than the standard cost for a car.0
