Keeping laptop cool?

Hi all, I have a Medion laptop, 3.06 Ghz 512 meg ram, running XPhome SP2. I use mobmeter to monitor the temps and the temp of the CPU can get up to over 70 just surfing and running a virus scan. The laptop is 3 years old, is there any easy way of getting to the insides to see how dusty it is? I've hoovered the intake and outtake holes but this does'nt make much difference for long. Any ideas anyone(except get a new one:rolleyes: ) Thanks

You could try removing the bottom and/or top covers and cleaning inside but be careful.
Can you hear the fan running or cutting in and out? Perhaps the fan is stuck or faulty.
I rarely bother to check the temp of my processor. My Dell laptop has worked fine for 3 years, although it gets hot to the touch underneath if used heavily and continuously. The fan very rarely cuts in.
I have faith that the components are designed to tolerate the heat.:D0 -
Hi Avoriaz, the fan is running constantly from start, up some times faster than others. Its done this for a long time( cant remember if it has done this from new). I get worried some times that its going to just die on me:eek: . I've just replaced the hard drive in it as I c*****d out the old one trying to get a wireless network up and running and eventually couldn't even login:mad: , not sure what I did wrong there, I'll try to revive it later, thanks for the reply and sorry for the long post0

you could try some external cooling:

You can change the clockspeed of some laptop processors, which saves battery power and makes them run cooler. I use SpeedSwitchXP, see if your processor is compatible.0
