Worth it to replace clutch?
I have a slightly scuffed 3 door 2004 Peugeot 206 hatch that has run pretty well till now. Getting some juddering when I start up in first and think the clutch might be on it's way out. Getting the local garage to take a look next week (not Peugeot - that would be insane!). I have no idea how much a replacement + fitting would cost. Could be throwing good money after bad. Especially as this could just be the start of things which need fixing. How do you decided when to cut your losses and replace the car?

I'd change the clutch. The car is only six or seven years old. Just because the clutch is on its way out after seven years of use that isn't a sign than the car is suddenly going to develop expensive reliability problems, merely that the clutch has reached the end of its life.0

I just had the clutch replaced on the GF's 1.4 206 51 reg for £240 + vat (3 piece clutch with gear oil)
I guess you need to find a garage that will change it for reasonable money.
Yours is an 04 so plently of life left, unless its done more miles than James T Kirk!"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
depending on model of 206, if its something special or your bog standard or diesel.
and again pugs are renouned for gearbox failures and 04 yrs are not exempt though i think the newer type models have now the issue addressed with better bearings.
if youve had good motoring and penny less motoring from the french ie no majour issue i cant see why it shouldnt be repaired if you think it may pose a trouble leter then part ex it.0 -

I was just going to mention the input and lay shaft bearings.0 -
My old Hyundai Accent often juddered in first like that. Took it to my trusted garage who said it would be cured by replacing the clutch, but its liveable with so don't bother unless it gets much worse. I didn't bother and scrapped it earlier this year after it broke - unrelated to the clutch. Maybe worth thinking about if the garage tries to insist on a new clutch. Unless pugs are different...0
