Tax credits- updating info

My salary for 2011/12 will be approx £8,000 more than 2010/11. I was told that there is no need to advise tax credit people as this was an increase of less than £10,000. If I don't does that mean that I will end up owing them money at the end of March 2012.

You are best to tell them just now but your award will continue to be based on your 10-11 income. If you don't tell them just now you will not have been overpaid for the 11-12 tax year but you may find you have been overpaid from April 2012 up until when the renewal is completed.0
