Plusnet's cancellation fee

Hello, we currently have a contract with Plusnet for our internet access but are moving to a new house where our friends already have internet access with O2 but only until January. We were hoping to be able to pause our contract with plusnet and re-start in Jan but they're saying they used to do that but Ofcom don't like it so they've stopped. This means we'll have to cancel and be charged £90!
Does anyone know if there's any way around this - it seems a bit silly that we can't just pause our contract for a couple of months and we'll probably just renew the o2 contract in Jan rather than re-signing to plusnet so they'll be losing us as customers (as well as costing us £90).
