Lost job, basically constuctive dismissal, housing benefit and JSA

Hi guys, thanks for reading.

I used to work in a small company, about a month ago at my review my bosses told me to resign and I'd get a month paid to find another job, if I didn't, I'd be fired and wouldn't get a reference (important as first proper job)... So, I relented, involving a compromise agreement.

I've come to the awareness that this may affect my claim and I wanted to know what those more learned than me know. I have since done a piece of freelance work, and I declared myself as self-employed on some government website. However I am also looking for full time jobs etc.

What do you think would be my best way forward? Would the only way to get JSA and Housing benefit be to take employer to a tribunal? Because I kinda can't do that.

Any help and guidance massively appreciated.

I don't see how a jsa claim will be affected
  • Isn't there a rule that says if you 'resigned' your job, which technically I did, then you are not eligible for a certain amount of time?

Has to be the last job and you've done some self employed work since

I know how you feel i was unfairly dismissed and now their is a rule for that.

i wouldn't worry though to be completley honest with you. They said it could affect my claim but it hasnt and I have had 4 payments since. They have to give you a reference, or have a very good reason for withholding it. Most companies now just give a basic reference.

Although you resigned, just explain to the job centre you felt you had no choice but to resign, tell them EXACTLY what they said to word for word. Tell them you felt you would be unlikley to get another job if you let yourself get fired.

They have to give you a reference, or have a very good reason for withholding it. No, they don't. There is no legal obligation on an employer to provide a reference. Ever.

Most companies now just give a basic reference. No, they don't. Some give basic references and some do not.

Sorry, but neither of these statements are factual.
