Recently I bought some new material in the sales and had them made into curtains (local curtain maker).
A couple of days ago she brought them around and hung them. They look lovely BUT they absolutely STINK !!!
She says it's the fire retardant on them and it will wear off in a few weeks but we're supposed to be putting our house on the market next week - can't possibly with those smelling as they do. It's horrible. I can't stay in the room more than an hour without getting a headache (even with all the windows open).
Any ideas how I can get rid of the stink in a couple of days ??? (apart from having them dry cleaned and I dread to think how much that would cost).

Have you tried spraying them with some oust or somthing similar? This should fix your problem.0

All fabric has a 'finish' on it when it's been woven and some finish can have a smell which is worse if there's yards and yards of the new fabric in one room. Stick them on the outside line for a good blow and then give them a spray with something like Fabreze..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I know the smell you mean - it's almost like a stale fishy smell, not very nice! Yes, it will abate and you need to keep the room well aired. I'm not usually a fan of Febreeze but in this case it might be worth a try.0

I'd hang the curtains out on the washing line - try & get some wind and fresh air through them. Good luck0

I've had one on the line all day - even through a bit of light rain and lots of wind - absolutely no difference between that one and the one that was left inside.
I bought some Febreeze, but when I got home realised I'd picked up the air freshener, rather than the fabric freshener, by mistake
It's really smelling the room out - horrible. Worse because we're about to put our house on the market! If we get any viewers, I think it will put them off ... They'll think we've got damp (or something worse).0 -
Have you got, or could you borrow a steam cleaner? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
