Just today she received a reply from a temp Christmas job she applied for saying that they were very impressed with her CV but they needed clarification that she would be available at short notice for 6 hour shifts and those shifts would vary week to week.

What student can agree to that?

Sometimes you just have to take the job anyway, and then when you've got it you do everything you can to reduce conflicts between the job and your education.

In your daughter's case, if she's living at home and you're supporting her, then putting education first is sensible.

In the OP's case - where it seems the options available to her include "not eating" and "dropping out entirely" - then I'd say that missing some lectures in order to go to work would be the lesser evil.

thats a good point, I'm thinking of collage hours rather than uni lecture hours :o
  • Instead of you doing everything and worrying aboutv the situation what is he going to do? What about him moving out and getting support so that he can eventually get a job?

Just another question to the OP...how are you able to claim benefits when you are a full time student?

I got told by a student advisor on my first day at uni that the most I could claim was 0% council tax.

I thought that maintenance and loans cancelled out the ability to claim jobseekers and income support?

    Am scratching my head now...
