Double glazing dilema

I wonder if you could all help me. I have dilema. I had a door and UPVC windows fitted yesterday at the back of the house. I left the workmen on their own to finish the job.
I was under the impression after a conversation they would wait for my partner to return before they left the house. But they didn't and locked our front door and took the key with them without prior arrangement or phoning me to check.
This was our only key and we were then locked out. We tried to get hold of them but with no luck. With it getting dark and our family waiting in the road we had to call out a locksmiths.
I feel I need to take the cost of the locksmiths off our bill, which I haven't paid yet. Do people think this is fair?

you left the workmen, in your house, on thier own, with the only key to the house you have?
Sorry, but I think its a bit far fetched to blame them - especially as you quote no time lines in the above events..0 -
Cannot believe you only have one front door key, most people have several (at least 2) so no not reasonable. If I was working in your home in those conditions and you didnt return when it was time for me to leave, then what I stay there till it gets dark or find out you are away for the weekend?
No, I'd leave when finished, take the key with me or pop it back through your letterbox, so you found it when you got home with your set of keys , right?
DG companies have got alot to answer for but sometimes customers dont help matters
sashmanBuying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run. :mad:0 -
Did you instruct them to wait for you? Or was there a fixed time they had to stay until?
If not I fail to see why they should wait for you to return! Let alone why they should pay the locksmith bill. It was her fault for going out without a key and both of your fault for not having a second key (what would you do if she lost the first one?).0
