Teens ripped off - is it worth complaining?

My daughter and her friend ordered 30 cake toppers.
They supplied 30 images but when they collected them, they were told that the machine had broken and only some had printed.
They were still charged because "its a single charge for up to 30 toppers".
They didn't get a receipt.
The cakes are for a 16th birthday. They have pictures for 14 of the 16 years but the others are blank so they don't have the letters/numbers they designed for the other cakes.
The shop would have reprinted but couldn't do it before the day of the party.
I think the shop fobbed them off because they were so young.
Given there is no receipt, is it worth me ringing and giving a piece of my mind?

does the shop list it as a price for up to 30 toppers?
If so they printed what they could for the price agreed - they can't discount your order because they didn't print all 30 if the pricing structure they use is 1-30 toppers £X 30-60 toppers £XX for example...0 -

If the girls had only asked for 14 then fine, they would expect to pay the full price but they wanted the full 30 and didn't get them.
Surely they have broken the contract by not supplying what was ordered.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
Yes I would complain. They wouldn't have done this to an adult.
Very cheeky imho.
They should have given them what they could print for free or at least a discount as a gesture of goodwill. Obviously they don't care about repeat custom.0 -
or they could have refused to fulfill the order entirely, which would have meant you got none.
And presuming they would not do this to an adult, is just that, presumption with no basis of fact....0 -
I wouldn't have accepted paying the same price for 14 when I ordered 30. I'd have rather got a refund and left with none on principle. They should have offered a discount because they let the customer down.0

I think it's shoddy service, the girls ordered 30, the shop could only provide half, they should have given them those at a reduced price.
The shop let the girls down and they would have had to have gone elsewhere to have the remainder printed and ended up more out of pocket.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
out of principle I agree.
but as per the opThey were still charged because "its a single charge for up to 30 toppers".
They got up to 30 tops and were charged according to price list, sure there is an aspect of goodwill, but by the letter of their pricelist they were charged with what they were provided.0 -

Doesn't really matter what the shop's "pricing structure" is. What matters is what they'd agreed to provide and what they actually provided.
They didn't provide all the goods agreed, so they shouldn't expect to receive all of the money agreed...0 -
they attempted to provide, but couldn't completely fulfill the order, so instead they provided what they could and charged the amount according to pricing structure.
If they had a pricing structure for 1-10 and 10-20 then fine, but they charged you according to what you provided and charged you according to if you had come in asking for 10 instead of 30.
Thats the pricing structure they have, you do not have to accept it - but they did.
Yes there is good will and yes there is an element of being mean in what they did, but by the letter of the law, and by the accepting to pay for the goods offered the only thing left is to vote with your feet.
