A quick update which is somewhat overdue, sorry! My car was given an independent diagnosis and all OK. Then put it in the same day for another MOT (at Just MOTs) and again OK. Contacted the HO of the original chain and after much haggling (Diagnosis and passed MOT costs plus free MOT; Costs, MOT and Interim Service), I finally accepted costs plus a Major Service for free. They didn't admit fault of course, but I did say I would never go to them for another MOT, free or Tesco vouchers notwithstanding.

    only just seen this thread

personally although it would probably do no good i would find out via bristol ho vosa who the area manager of vosa for your area is based and advise him of your findings

As SB says, even with the delay (which means they won't be able to do anything "official") you should let VOSA know about this. They do run random checks and "mystery shopper" tests and it helps them to know who might be overdue one.

Even if there was no intentional fraud, any tester should have spotted those 0 / 0 results and suspected the test result himself rather than just condemning the sensor.

If it WAS intentional then it's a very lucrative scam because the new sensor they fit for you is quite likely to be the one you already have but you won't query because the "new" one has now passed. That'll be lots of £££ for leaving your car in the car-park overnight, please.
  • I think that there are enough clues in my posts to identify the chain and the branch in question. Reading between the lines I suspect that the Regional Centre Manager with whom I corresponded was less than impressed by the actions of this branch. In all likelihood "appropriate" measure have already been taken. In contrast I pondered about approaching VOSA, but with no proof positive I had little to offer and expected therefore little in return. I feel that threads such as this have more clout, as they offer advice and testimony to those with similar experiences to mine. It is for such individuals to weigh up what is stated in posts here and to act or not accordingly. I certainly do!
