Scotia Gas Network
Afternoon
Bit of a weird one, its partially to do with a utility company!
Got home Wednesday to find a large hole outside my house, this I do not have a problem with as its on the public highway, what I do have a problem with is that they have also opened up a large hole in a private access road that is nothing to do with the public highway.
This hole they have dug up is preventing me from parking my car in my garage (roadside parking is a nightmare!) plus my car insurance states that I must park my car in the garage overnight. Also to note I have 2 small children under 5's and its far easier and safer for me to park in the garage to get them out of the car.
SO back to it! Wednesday hole dug up and no appearance from workers since then.
We did not receive any notification from Scotia that they were going to do this, not by letter, phone or by person (My Wife is at home during the day as she works Night shifts so would know if someone knocked the door!)
Does anyone know what I can do about this?
Thanks

Hi there,
It wasn't an emergency for a gas leak that much I do know, who are transco?0 -
How do you know it not an emergency-someone else may have reported a leak.
Transco no longer exists, it's National Grid you need to contact, or Scotia-they are the contractors for NG in this case.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Well if it was an emergency surely they would not have taken all day just to dig holes and not actually change anything?
Still all existing pipework now exposed nothing has been changed.
From previous experience usually if there is a leak you would smell it, plus also actually change something but hey ho!0 -
"it's National Grid you need to contact, or Scotia-they are the contractors for NG in this case."
Scotia are nothing to do with National grid, they are the company that own the pipes in your area by the sounds of it, why not give them a call and find out what is happening, chances are if the excavation appeared suddenly without warning it is due to a gas emergency and the initial priority in such is to locate leak and make safe and that is not always as straight forward, give that gas like water will travel through every little crack to the path of least resistance so which may not be exactly where the leak is, once located any trapped gas has to be ventilated then repairs can start,
Yes it may be difficult not be able to park your car in your garage but better that than something dreadful.

No point calling National Grid as they will not have details of any works carried out by another company in this case ScotiaI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -

You know.,,holes have to be dug..!
The chaps will dig and eventually fill them in,go away and peace will reign again..!
Just whistle this merry tune...sing along now..and pay them no heed unless YOU want to be the man in the bowler hat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yShvgXZQBTsFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
