we moved into our house July 1st... switched to British Gas as we were to get a grant from them because we were getting GCH installed AND taking Gas and Electricity out with them so we got £400
ANYWAY!
we're on British Gas' pay-as-you-go just now because that was what was in the house when we moved - we are getting moved over to DD (websaver 12) soon.
I checked my amount Yesterday and it was sitting at £5.39 or there abouts... today i check and we're nearly down to £2! the few months that we have been in the house we were averaging in at around £1.50/£2 max a day... how the hell have we used £3+ in a day?? we're not using any more items/electricity than normal :S Only things left on at night are:

Check with BG - There was a recent post from a Prepay metered customer who had, had a 'Phantom' debt loaded onto their account0

thanks for that. we're meant to be moving onto DD and whatever is left on the meter is going to be wiped anyway but still! it was our money we put on it and the meter seems to be gobbling it up!Moved in!

Put the key in the meter, then start to press the button to scroll through the different screens. Screen S will show you if there's a debt been programmed onto the meter. If it shows nothing then that's not the reason and you need to start thinking about whenther you had some washing on that evening, or might have accidentally left something on overnight or anything of that sort.
There are plenty of ways to accidentally use extra money over one day. It's if it keeps going at the higher rate that you need to really worry about what's going on...I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
we found out what the problem was - our MIL had been using the washing machine on the longest cycle possible on several occasions! >__<Moved in!

This "gobbling up" has also been an issue for us for the past week or so...
We used to average £1.00 a day which has now increased to £1.50... this has coincided with receiving an annual statement and a message on the statement saying we qualify for a £15 dual fuel discount which will be programmed to our key within the next couple of visits to paypoint...
Its as if they're clawing back the £15 by some sort of stealth method before giving us the discount!0
