House insurance renewal and Quidco

Hi to all, just a wee question regarding buildings/contents insurance and Quidco.
My house insurance is due for renewal on 18 January; I was originally going to purchase both buildings and contents insurance with Barclays through Quidco but on reading this forum I notice that it is possible to purchase buildings and contents separately.
Is it possible to have the same insurer for both buildings and contents but under different policies, if so does that mean two sets of cash backs.
If not can I have one insurer for buildings and another for contents. The only problem with this i can see if there was a problem such as my roof leaked and furniture was damaged and the two insurance companies decide it should be the other ones problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can have different insurers for different policies and it is often cheaper to do that, but not always, so do check.
Your buildings insurance will cover the building and generally anything you couldn't take away with you if you moved, eg pipes, windows etc. Your contents policy will not cover things like that but will cover most things that 'would fall out if you turned the house upside down.'
There is no reason why you couldn't make 2 claims for one event if you are claiming for different things. The roof claim would be made to the building ins company and the damaged furniture would be claimed for through the contents company. It's not the same as trying to get money twice by claiming for the roof from 2 different companies.
I presume, but don't know for sure, that you would be best to declare to each company that you were making claims from the other.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
There are people on here who have had separate home insurance policies with the same company and received 2 lots of cashback, but personally I am not tempted to try it. My current home insurance/Quidco favourites are LloydsTSB and Barclays. The theory is to get contents with one and buidlings with the other. £245 cashback if you do this (in some cases this amounts to more than the total outlay)...0

Same question exactly was wondering if I would get double cashback if I went for a separate buildings and contents insurance.
My other question would be whether I can cancel my existing policy (which runs until june) without incuring penalties, but I suppose I should ask that to current insurer.0 -
