Can Windscreen crack be repaired?
The crack is in the external layer, about 5 inches long but only around the corner where the tax disc goes; not in the area swept by the wipers and hence not an MoT issue.
Do the free 'chip repairs' offered under car insurance policies repair cracks or will they just turn up and say 'new screen mate' with the associated £75 excess?
Anyone know of a good DIY repair kit for cracks rather than chips?

Not that I'm aware of and the crack is only going to get bigger0

No fix for cracks, too dangerous !0

No repair, but depending on how long you intend to keep the car, since it's in the tax disc area may as well just leave it until the crack reaches the MOT failure area.
I remember this from my grandad's van as a kid, I think he got another 5 years (and one more crack, which would have been a second new windscreen!) out of that windscreen before it finally failed an MOT and had to be replaced.0 -
No it can't be repaired but neither is it dangerous. Remember a windscreen is two or more layers of glass and it'll only be cracked on one of them.0

Yes it will be a new screen with the excess to pay. They can repair a small chip but a 5" crack can't be done.0

If it was my car I would just leave it. You may even be lucky and not get any worse.0

The crack extended into the area swept by the nearside wiper so with MoT coming up, I had to get a new screen. £70 excess. Thanks for the replies. If it had of been out of the swept area I might have left it or attempted to seal it with some resin but wasn't to be.0
