leaking overflow from combi boiler

hi, just wanting a bit of advice before i call out engineer.
on wednesday we had a part replaced on our boiler as it was making a whistling noise when hot water was on. the noise has now gone, but when i use my hot water or heating the overflow is leaking all over the ground outside. this did not happen before the part was replaced, and i would say its quite a bit of water, enough to freeze when i will have my heating on all the time.
any advice on on this would be great:D

Do you mean the condensate pipe, or the pressure relief overflow?
If it's not a condensing combi, it won't have the condensate drain.
The condensate pipe is designed to discharge, the relief overflow should not be.
What pressure is showing on the dial?

  • sorry i have no idea what kind of overflow it is. there is only one pipe that goes outside if that makes any sense. the pressure is between 2 and half and 3. the model is mini c24 btw.
    really appreciate this:o

  • Look at the pressure gauge if the pressure is below normal / dropping it is probably a leaky pressure relief valve which will need replacing. If the pressure is above normal / rising the heater matrix has broken down so tap water pressure is leaking into the heating circuit (or the filling loop hasn't been disconntected!), and then opening the pressure relief valve. If non of the above then some pipe might just be a bit loose & need tightening.

So it's the pressure relief valve overflow. Is it copper pipe? Condensate pipes will be plastic.

  • Call the heating firm as it could be something very simple that the engineer has or hasnt done, the engineers I work for would talk to you over the phone and would guide you if they thought it was another call out or if it was a corrective measure if the later then free.
  • well its white, metal i think, then has a plastic elbow joint on it so it points downwards! lol sorry to sound like such a dummy!maybe i'd be best just to ring them, its the british gas homecare team.

sounds like the PRV. leave it and itll settle itself. eventually.
or relieve some pressure from a rad bleed valve.

pressure should be about 1.5 - 2.0 max.
