Where to go for energy, had an offer from BG

Hi,

I was on BG fixed price 2011, it ends at the end fo the month, Eon called me a few weeks ago and I agreed to swap to a non fixed tarrif as they work out cheeper for gas and similar for elecrtric.

But they tried to move me early (I told them I dont want to swap till October because of charges). I then get a call from BG saying you are moving just wondered why, oh and your electric is going on 29th sept so you may be charged!

I called Eon and advised they said sorry we will credit you £30, so I advised BG, and they said, because Im a loyal customer, you can have a discount of £100 if you come back to us in 6 weeks and stay for a year.

I said thanks but Eon offer £63 for a years membership in cash back, plus they are £50 less per year than you so, I can't be bothered with the hassle of swapping again.

BG then say, well ok what about £150, so I'm like errr, interesting. "sorry Im cooking so can you call back tomorrow".

Now Im here and wondering what to do?

Can anyone advise what they think of the offer, and if BG or Eon would be best?

I use the following:
G 16265kWh
E 2966kWh

Per year.

  • BG also tried to entice me back with £65 and 10,000 nectar points, but it still worked out slightly dearer as i swapped before the rise ensued.
Shame they just didn't offer before i went.
In the end i locked with another provider till march 2014.

the price match people say Ill ave £269 on Eon from BG Standard tarrif, but I dont understand all the lockins and what to select to get the most dicsount for paying (liek DD variable of monthly)
  • Further investigation shows that Eon do a Save online 9 that is 2% cheaper than their standard, with only a £30 cancelation fee, if you dont stay for a year.
works out at £947.50 on current usage
other one was £1,072.50 on current usage but with £63 discount at the end of the year so £1009.50
BG are £1202 on current usage with £150 discount so £1052
or on an online tarrif £1151.09 (online saver 4) so £1001.09

So even with a £30 fee to swap I can do worst case £977.5 if I go eon then swap away.

Am I mad or does that sound right? sorry to ask, just so confusing and the other half isnt interested!

What is the average for Elec?

3 bed house 2 people, I work at home, and wife teaches so is home in summer months.
  • I had a call and feel bad that Im probably not making someones bonus for keeping/switching me back, but it looks like Eon are cheapest for me for now, however more investigation is required, and Im now worried about my elec usage so wonder what Im doing.

Your electric usage at 2966kwh per year is not high at all.
The average is deemed to be around the 3200 figure.
I would say that 5211 kwh is high.
  • I take it you are not a BG fan!

    No.

Nor npower or Scottish power but I could not have a user name that long:rotfl:

We will now see if EDF is added to the list.
