Third faulty TV in a month - aaaaggh!

Options
Hi guys

I don't know if i'm on the right board, but here goes anyway!

I've just had yet another JVC TV, bought from Tesco, die on me. First one didn't even turn on at all, second one worked but kept turning itself on and off , and then eventually died. Of course, I took these back and accepted and exchange both times. I finally thought 'third time lucky' and took another JVC home, and this one seemed the best of the bunch - yes, I thought, finally cracked it. Then bam! This morning, right in the middle of Popworld, it just went off and won't go back on - GRRRRRR  I am so annoyed!

What I want to ask is, have I just been unlucky or is there something more sinister going on with my electrics?
Obviously I don't know anything about electrics - I don't even know how to wire a plug - but I'm thinking this is unlikely because everything that's plugged into the same socket (and extension lead) works fine. I have tried plugging the TV into different sockets, and even changed the fuse (but only because it was one of those pop-out ones!) but the TV is still dead.

I know I can get my money back no problem, but it's just worrying me that something is my flat is 'killing' these TVs!

Has anyone else had trouble with 28" widescreen JVC TV, bought from Tesco or otherwise?

    Hello scorpio princess

Your thread will be better placed in 'The (Consumer) Vent' board, so I'll move it across.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

  • Hi Scorpio,

The problem is obvious, nothing wrong with your electrics or the TV it's what u watch --- Popworld --- ANy wonder the TV packed in:rotfl:

Sorry, being serious now - If everything else in the house is working OK, I would tend to think that there is a 'batch' problem with that Stores stock. I think I would get a refund and try another store or go elsewhere.

    i second that
  • I have a JVC which I inherited from my Mum and it kept switching off. Turned out it needed a software update by JVC engineer(free under guarantee) and been alright for a year so far. Sounds very similar to this bunch.

If its your 3rd tv, then i'd get a refund and get another TV from somewhere else!
  • Thanks for all your replies guys :)

ScottishSapper - what's wrong with Popworld?! Perfect hangover TV!

Peter the piper - that sounds exactly like what's been going on with my TVs - the second one kept turning itself off for no apparent reason. I'll mention the software thing to the Tesco helpline when I call them tomorrow - thanks!

Quidsin - believe me, nothing would make me happier than to tell them to poke their dodgy TVs and spend the refund in another store - thing is, the same kind of TV is at least another 50 quid in the other shops (I know I know - you get what you pay for) and I really don't have the money to pay extra anywhere else - it's January after all! So they've got me between a rock and a hard place unfortunately.

Your TV just has good taste. Popworld was rubbish yesterday.

I bet it failed right in the middle of that awful new All Saints video.:D

    get onto trading standards.

this is going back 14 years (shame at my age) but my then boyf got me a portable tv for my 18th birthday. the damn thing didnt work, well it worked but the pictures was appauling and one of those signal boosters didnt work either.

it went back and forth to the shop for repairs for 6 months and still had the same problem despite them saying it worked fine in the workshop.

i then got TS involved and suprisingly it worked fine after TS spoke to the store.

    the problem?

the plug that was on the tv when i received it from the shop (i was there to pick it up and they had already put a plug on it) wasn't wired correctly.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me
