Scottish power problem

:mad:I recently switched from Ovo energy to Scottish power. The sales person told me i would pay less per year and have a cheaper monthly direct debit. This was done over the phone. Some time later i was looking into boiler care , when Scottish power told me i was not on the tariff i thought i was. After several phone calls with Scottish power I was told the original sales person had lied to me and it was one of the worst cases they had dealt with. I am now in the process of being transferred back to ovo. I am also awaiting a repayment of my direct debit payments and £50.00 compensation. I know this has now put me off switching to any other utility provider, and yes i am shocked that these companies can still do this to people.

You may well have had (initially) a cheaper monthly DD-but that does not reduce your bills! Unfortuantely this is the oldest trick in the utility seller's book.
It shouldn't put you off at all. If you want to switch, use a comp site and a cashback site, do your own research and keep the commission for yourself.
Never believe or buy from a doorstep seller or cold caller.

  • Thanks for your reply, i didnt just change because the monthly direct debit was cheaper,i gave my previous years duel bill cost. The lady at Scottish power said they could supply my energy cheaper than ovo. Scottish power have just told me i had been lied to about the price of the energy and the lady had made it up. I found scottish power on a comp site and this is why it puts me off changing in the future.

The comp sites do not lie, as along as you use your annual kWH figs and not monthly DD figs. If you found it cheaper there then you could just have switched online (via a cashback site) and made the savings.
In your case you appear to have been put on a different tariff to the one that would have made you savings, due to going via the manual sign up route. If you sign up online this cannot happen.

  • Your right i did find this online and then made the mistake of phoning them. I was told i was on the online saver tariff . Well we live and learn. I didnt realize they could change it when you put the phone down.

The clue is in the tariff name...
But clearly if you were told you were on that tariff, then it was mis-sold.

here and here and here on a lookup suggests you have a ' vested interest ' my friend.

Do you have a ' vested interest ' ?, and if you do why didn't you openly declare it to the group ?
