Other Kias, Hyundais mentioned have would all be fine and reasonably newish cars at £7k-£8k
The Toyota and Honda models slightly older but arguably hold their value better.
Olenty of choice of Ford Focus out there aswell
www.parkers.co.uk useful guides on there and reviews and stats
a diesel??? most modern diesels are fitted with diesel particulate filters DPF for short and if the car doesnt do good runs weekly you will have trouble with them.
i would not recommend a diesel in this case at all, its not justified and you wont save any money.
with refrence to someone saying honda jazz's are pretty useless, my neighbour has one its never let him down not once in the 3 years he's owned it, he's never even maintained it like regular oil changes plugs etc etc and engine runs sweet as a nut and go's to 70 smoothly and quicker than most of your 1.2 1.4 corsa's of the same range.
a petrol 1.4 1.6 ford focus would be what i would search for in this case and with the 8k max budget would find a decent well looked after model with extra's, or vauxhaull astra 1.4 1.6, kia cee'd 1.6, handa jazz as youve said maybe a bit small for your family but there are room in them so dont be put off looking at one, with the octavia 1.6 would be my choice but as they hold prices well these days your not going to get a one owner 18 month old for less than 10k. avoid french especially renault the keyless entry systems are expensive to repair and if you get a vvt model engine with a dephaser type cam pully go in it thats big bucks for french tat.
with pushchairs so compact as they are these days the need for bigger cars are becoming less but still we as a nation tend to think we need a large car for our familys.0 -
Seat Leon,Skoda Octavia and the mid size japanese would be my ideal recommendations.0

There are half a dozen Jazzs in this street and most of their owners are well under 70 with young kids. Mind you, this is a terribly green and slightly posh area.
There don't seem to be many used Jazzs going though, so if you are likely to need more space anyway, I'd think about a Civic - plenty more of them around.Debt free May 2016... DFW#2 in progress
