Gmail/Hotmail 'read receipts' and Skydrive query

I have a hotmail.co.uk account and I was wondering if it is possible to ascertain whether an email sent to a gmail account has been read by one of the several recipients. There were also photos on it downloadable from Skydrive; is it possible to see whether these have been downloaded (as the email went to multiple recipients, most would have downloaded the photos.)

No not really , the only way is to send the mail with a read receipt set, and if the recipient is anything like me and many others on the forum, they ignore/refuse to send read receipt acknowledgements.

I'm pretty certain the recipient wouldn't have messed with the original settings (technophobe, you see!) so I need to know if gmail is set to allow read receipts by default or whether you have to actively activate them.

No , when they open the mail the client usually says , "The sender has requested a return recipt" then asks them if they want to send one or ignore it , they don't have to mess with anything, just say no/ignore and you will be none the wiser.

My experience with Outlook Express is that "read requests" sent from OE don't appear in messages sent to webmail addresses such as Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo unless those messages are redirected to OE.
