Hi, I am just wondering is there is any way of copying my childrens Nintendo DS games?
We are going on holiday soon and will be doing a few excursions on a coach so would like to take their DS's with me however I do not want to take £100's of games with me if I can avoid it. These are all original games that I have bought from genuine sites so nothing dodgy on that score.
Thanks

Not the best place to ask... if anyone does post wirth a way of doing it then it will most likely be reported and this entire post removed. It's not necessarily that your intentions are honest (though we only have your word for it), but any advice can be used for unscrupulous people to gain from.0

you only own the storage medium, not the software, you are not allowed to copy it as it stands in law.
anyway, you would need a chipped ds etc...Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

I don't know how to do it, but I'm sure that the law has changed or is changing to allow you to do make back-ups of any media you own.
Its in the process of changing, at the moment even if you have put a cd you own onto itunes to listen on your MP3 player you are breaking the law, but as I said they are in the process of changing that.0 -
It is possible but Im sure I cant say here how to do it.
The digital property laws are in the process of changing as some say they should have the right to copy games they own and use themselves but companies say it will increase piracy (IMO it wont, those who pirate will do so either way) but at the moment Nintendo try to stop it.
The information is widely available on the internet so its not a secret but its fair enough that sites like MSE dont allow ( I assume they dont) it as Nintendo could complain and it will cause alot of hassle. Also it will lead to other questions like ' how to download torrents' or ' how to copy from youtube' and the site will be filled with junk and get off the topic of helping people.0 -
The law as it stands DOES allow you to make a backup copy of software (but the exemption specifically applies to software and not music CDs, films, etc). However, the law also says it is illegal to circumvent copy protection measures (even if your copying would otherwise be legal), and so there is no (legal) way to copy your DS games, since the console checks that the cartridges are 'genuine' before it will let them load.0

You also agree to not copy the game as a result of most EULA's (which Nintendo ARE strict on) - so while the law says you may have a backup (and again i'm sure this qualifies in limited numbers of occasions) it's part of your license agreement to NOT copy the game. I would strongly recommend NOT attempting it, if you're worried about the risk of taking numerous games on the coach then simple, tell them to take 2-3 games a piece, that is not questionable legally, won't get you sued and that's the end of it, or simple, you keep all the games on you and if your children need to switch a game then they get it off you and give you the other one back.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0
