Therefore there really isnt any point trying to obscure the WHOIS for the domain when it must be on the site itself anyway.
Fair point, and with hindsight I probably shouldn't have mentioned it. Having said that, at least the OP now knows what WHOIS is all about
If the OP doesn't want their home address displayed, then I assume (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that they can set up a P.O. box, and use that as the address when they register the domain.0 -
I use 123-reg.co.uk, where it's £2.99 a year for a .co.uk domain. Been using them for about 4 or 5 years now with no problems.0

I know you're trying to help the OP, but given that they freely admit they're a novice, don't you think you've gone a bit overboard with the acronyms?
The OP is intending to run a business, i'm pretty sure if they wanted an explanation they'd ask, if they're a competent business owner i'm pretty they wouldn't need someone chirping in on their behalf...0 -

I use http://www.streamline.net.
About £8.50 for 2 years.

You call it chirping in, I call it trying to be helpful to a novice who is looking for advice.
Sorry, i didn't realise you actually helped the debate along...
OP
just be careful, there are loads of SEO, SEM "guru's" if you don't get your DN right you'll be spending time, money adding links, paying search engines and the guru's...
If people don't search it, you got to spend to put it in minds of people to make them search it and talk about it...0 -
Hi,
I wondered if anyone knew a good service for buying a domain name that is just about to run out but is currently held by someone else? What's the best and most reliable for nabbing it?0 -
Oh and make sure you buy the .co.uk / .com and the .co just incase your site becomes HUGE0
