Options

  • It is quite nice here...

It only takes 5 minutes to walk to the theatre from here and although I am not sure what it is you are going to see, I suspect you would be ok walking up at about 7 as nothing I have seen there has started before 7.30 so you would have an hour and a half to enjoy your food. Something a bit cheaper and mainstream...opposite the theatre is Cornerhouse and they have everything from a Subway to an all you can eat Chinese buffet. I have heard that the Lily Langtry pub (also opposite) is nice but not eaten there myself. It is busy there though as many have pre-theatre drinks there before crossing over to enjoy the show!

  • There's 2 chinese buffet restaurants round the corner Big wok and another whose name I forget virtually next door. The Curry Lounge also next door to these 2 was featured on Gordon Ramsey programme and is really good.

If you're looking for more informal, try the Stage pub on Wollaton Street (across the road almost from the Threatre - the chinese's are on the road behind the Stage and you can get to them by walking through the pub. The Stage is a popular drinking eating spot for all types.

There's also a great Thai in the alleyway by the casino on wollaton Street - look on google maps street view and you can get a feel for the area.
  • Thanks everyone, plenty for me to choose from there. My main concern was that often restaurants don't start serving till 6pm which is too late but will choose a couple and give them a ring. We are going to the Ballet next Friday, sort of early birthday treat for my DW.

Yes, along from the Stage on Upper Parliament Street are the May Sum, PeachyKeens, and the Curry Lounge. I know PeachyKeens is open fully from 5.30pm, I'd guess the others would be too. LeBistroPierre in the opposite direction from the theatre I'm sure has an early theatre menu, and the Cornerhouse literally across the road from the entrance to the Theatre Royal has loads of restaurants with loads of choice.

    Enjoy the ballet :).

I will second the recommendation for Peachykeens (not sure how to spell it), i have not bee but my mum and daughter went there a few days ago and said it was brilliant.

They said because they went earlier 6pm the food displays were amazing and all intact because the crowds of buffet goers had not ruined them, so i think going earlier is better when you go there.

Sorry for the ramble, this retaurant is on Paliament Street same as some of the others mentioned, i think if you head down there then you will find lots of buffet type places that are open all day.

It might also be worth checking out the corner house which has Nandos several chinese restaurants and more that i can't think of right now.Corner house is by the Royal concert hall which is down the side of the theatre royal.
  • Thanks again for lovely comments and recommendations, just realized I said next Friday but it is the 30th we are going.
