  • Thank you for your sound advice.

For anyone else out there receiving Parking Charge Notices from Excel (or any other private company for that matter) have a look on the website https://www.roadsidelawyer.co.uk and type in "Excel" in the search facility. What they say is very reassuring.

I just received one of these from "Parkforce". I parked in a pub carpark and nipped across to the shops, came back 10 minutes later and had a ticket. So I made a point of visiting the pub, had a swift half where I saw the Parkforce "operatives" drinking at the bar checking for new victims every 5 minutes in the 3/4 empty car park.

Will go back later to return the ticket to the pub, informing them I was actually in their establishment at around the time the ticket was issued.

I hadn't seen the Chad (I don't live in the Mansfield area). Just had a look at it via their website and there is another article which is dated today headed "Parking Fines went missing in the Mail".

Excel are now claiming that a batch of mail went missing which enclosed PCN's for offences comitted between 7 September and 11 October and this is why so many people have received the £100 fines.

Hmm..... don't think I believe that. The Notice I've got says it was issued in November. How much mail can they claim has gone missing!

I still haven't had a response from Excel despite it being 2 weeks since I asked them to provide details of my alleged offence although I do feel a lot betting knowing that they have been "rumbled".
Just wondered if you were aware of meeting on 23 Feb, I couldn't attend but emailed Martin with my plight. I also emailed him this week to see what happened at meeting and to ask if another meeting has been arranged, but not heard a bean. Did you attend the meeting, and are you aware of any further developments?

Not heard anything from Excel so take it they are in the wrong and know it.

Hot News - just found out from Chad website that The Portland Retail Park Action Group has been formed and will be holding a meeting at 11.30am on Saturday at the car park.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift - the present. ;)

  • As other posters have said, don't pay these charges from private companies - they are not legally enforceable.

A couple of years ago I was sent a 'fine' by the company which ran parking at our local Aldi saying that I had stayed for around 4hrs on a particular day. As it happened, I hadn't. I'd been in once early on to look for a car stereo which was on offer and again later to pick up the other half.

Luckily, in those days, I never used to clean out parking stickers from the car and was able to find one from the cinema car park which I'd been to in between and then wrote to them saying something like 'Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough' copying it to the shop, my local paper and MP. The local paper ran a story (wanted to get a picture of me looking angry and pointing at a parking sign I think) which got a few replies and the MP wrote to the manager of the company.
I then got letters from my MP who had 'asked the minister a question' on the use of public data (DVLA records) for this type of scam and written to the company. I then got letters from the area manager of Aldi who was saying they were very unhappy with the parking company and that he would ensure that the fine would be waived.

Eventually the company wrote to me, saying that it was probably my fault as I must have tailgated someone during one of my entrances / exits and so hindered their camera (!?!) but that they would waive the fee as a good will gesture this time.

My advice is don't pay and kick up as loud a stink as you can.

if you take the car out, say 10 mins before your 2 hours, or whatever is up, then return the same day,, it will register the first and last times only, otherwise Mincabs and the like just use it for freeparking.

if its any help there was an item on you and yours on radio 4 yesterday lunchtime about excel parking and a lady in mansfield who had 3 of these, they took her to the small claims court and she won on two counts, one not stating on the signs that if you exceeded the two hour limit you would be fined, and seccondly on the amount being too high along the lines of the bank charges going through at the moment. hope that makes sense.

    Regards
