Engagement Rings

Hi All,
I am in desperate need of some assistance as to where to purchase my girlfriend's engagement ring?!
I will be buying the ring on my own with no assistance or knowledge from my partner, I know it's a gamble but to me I see this as a massive part of the experience.
My ignorance to engagement rings is very high, so I truly have no idea what to do! What I do know is my partner is not superficial in the slightest, a big stone is not important and the cost of the ring is equally unimportant (tiffany's would mean nothing to her)! She would like a vintage ring, Edwardian or Victorian and maybe art deco in style.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest then going to a second hand jewellers/pawn shop. They have beautiful antique rings for less than a diamond solitaire.
Ultimately, where you go depends on how much you have to spend. I think there is a wedding thread somewhere on MSE and the girls on there will definitely be able to help you out :-)
Or even ebay - which is where my engagement ring came from. Was pwractically brand new and was £3k in Beaverbrooks - got it for £350 on Ebay.
Here's a lovely Edwardian one on now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPERB-EDWARDIAN-1-20-CT-DIAMOND-TWIST-18-CT-WHITE-GOLD-RING-/380369699949?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_VintageFineJewellery_CA&hash=item588fcd046d0 -
Where in the country do you live? If you live (or have reason to go) anywhere near Birmingham then the jewelery quarter is full of fantastic shops with lots to choose from and you pay a lot less there than at a high street jeweller.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

That is a lovely ring. I had considered using ebay, i'm just quite nervous about the whole thing. Don't get me wrong I use Ebay a lot but not for anything of that importance.
Browneyedbazzi; I live about an hour and half drive from Birmingham, though i'm not at all familiar with the jewellery quarter, but it's definitely something to consider so thanks for that!0 -
The ring above is lovely, but I have one almost identical and it wont sit well next to a standard wedding band, something to bear in mind.0

Does she prefer white or yellow gold?
Do you know her ring size?Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I'd second the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. I've had some unique jewellery from there. It makes you feel special to know very few, if any people, will have the same piece as you.0
