Hi
My friend is getting married in nyc next July. Myself, my 5 yr old daughter and my Dad are going and we want to spend 2 weeks there. This is going to be once in a lifetime for us, but we are still on a budget! I booked an apartment last weekend but then after reading that it was illegal have now cancelled it!
Please help me! I have found lots on airbnb which look well within our budget-are these legal though? We want a full apartment and not to share with someone else? Or would you go for a hotel? We wanted to go with the apartment option so that in the morning we don't have to get the little 'un up and dressed before we go out and get breakfast etc.. and also so at nightn when she is sleeping, my dad and i can still sit down together, rather than being in a hotel where we would have separate rooms if you get what i mean?
The flights i have found work out about £2050 for the 3 of us so we were looking at hopfully finding accomodation for about £2000-can this be done? dates will prob be 16th-30th july or 23rd july-6th august.
Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it is legal in Jersey City.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Try googling 'New York aparthotels.
They're small apartments with a separate living room and a kitchen area but are run like hotels, so perfectly legal.
They're not cheap, but then again nowhere in NYC is!

Sorry to highjack the thread, but what do you mean about not being legal? Are you only allowed to stay in Hotels in NYC?0

It is often said on internet forums that renting apartments in NYC is illegal for rentals of less than 30 days. That may or may not be the case, but I have certainly never ever heard of it being enforced. Apartments are widely and openly advertised for rental, on airbnb and other places.
OP: I have used airbnb (and other sites such as VRBO) to rent apartments in NYC and elsewhere many times and have never had a problem. You do have to be careful though - e.g. I would never rent anywhere that didn't have some positive reviews etc.0 -
OP, all I would say is that if you're looking to book for next July then you won't get any decent deals at this point. You say you have sourced flights for the three of you for £2,050, but I would expect that you should be able to get to New York for less than £500 a head from anywhere in the UK if you wait until at least the start of next year before booking.
I'd argue that much the same applies to the cost of hotel rooms.0 -
Can't disagree with Eesh, when i went in 2009 i'd checked about this time to book for the June and was seeing quotes over £1k and eventually booked in the February (09) and paid just under £500 all in, but that was going for a "crash out" hostel & flights from Glasgow! Looking at New Jersey might not be all that bad an idea if you can get somewhere close to a hub to get into Manhattan easilly enough.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Have you tried the Best Western Hospitality House on E49th Street? they offer 1 and 2 bed apartments which come with a full kitchen inc dishwasher, cooker, microwave. Buffet Breakfast is included and you can either eat downstairs or take it back to your room.
This place was a god send when we were stranded due to the volcano. We have stayed there twice with the children. Checkout their website. We booked direct 2nd time around and paid on arrival. Very friendly staff, good accomodation and location to subway, bus stops etc.0 -
Thank you so much everyone! I will have a look at everything that has been mentioned and certainly think about waiting a while to book. I wasn't sure if booking early would be better so that we definitely got to go on the dates we wanted! :T I really appreciate all of your help!Mummy to the most amazing and clever little girl x0

I wouldn't worry about booking early - there are so many flights on a daily basis from the UK to NYC I doubt you'll have any problems
I'd definately wait a while to book the flights though - every few months or so the airlines release "sale" prices for blocks of dates - I wouldn't expect them to release sale fares until 6 months or so beforehand.

To be honest New York isn't all that anyway.
Stay in DC or up in Maine and make a trip to NYC.0
