We save empty tins of beans or soup or whatever, just stick them by the cooker and pour fat into those.

Thanks for this, just applied so fingers crossed they are still sending them out :)
  • I've used one of these fat traps. They are great for the birds, but have an unexpected bonus. Every so often I looked at all the congelled fat and this has the effect of me changing my diet to some thing less fatterning.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    questions:

when making a fat ball for birds, should the fat content be microwaved to make it more liquid first, before putting in seeds?

will the birds still interested if the finish seedy fat thing is left in the tub, rather than being scoop out and hanged on a string?
  • We don't have any waste fat but we do have waste sunflower cooking oil from time to time. As far as I can see this won't solidify so I can't see that this small "fat trap" will be much use. I always keep the original plastic bottles the stuff came in for disposal in the rubbish. Can't see what else I can do with it.

They are good if say for example you only use a small amount of sunflower oil at a time. You can then pour itinto the fat trap , until your bottleis empty, the transfer it back!
