No 1 Accident Claims LTD call?

Hi.
I had a call earlier today from a No 1 Accident Claims company about an accident I had last November. They seemed to know all about the claim, details, times, places etc which is why I kept on the phone. Basically I was in a petrol station queue and the guy in front of me reversed (I think he had enough of waiting, it was a long queue) and hit me, he go out and apologised. I put the claim in, some time later he had said that I was going forward at the same time he was going backwards, and so the most they would do is 50/50. I had cctv of it, but my insurance company screwed up and didnt retrieve it, so they said since the other parties insurance hadn't claimed for damage from me, they could close the claim and call it quits. I didn't want to pay my excess for a small scratch/dent so closed it.
Now No 1 claims are saying that they have been contacted by the other persons insurance company (they knew the guys name and his insurance company) to chase up why I hadn't claimed from their insurance yet since he admitted full liability now. I was confused as I wasn't aware that he had admitted full liability as last I heard he was 50/50 and they said he has now gone full liability and they could get some compensation for me. I was thinking this sounds legit since they know all the details about the incident so they put me through to a solictor or someone to take the details of the claim and to tell them what happened so paperwork can be drawn up. They put me back through to No 1 claims who said they will call me tomorow to see if the solicitor has accepted to take it on, and said it would be a no win no fee and there will be no court case just a cheque in the post since the other persons insurance has set aside money for this eventuality already.
Now I'm thinking, hang on, why would the other guys insurance want to know why I hadn't claimed? And now it seems a bit dodgy as I've read some companies sell the details of claims to other companies. I'm unsure of what to do. I haven't signed anything, so am I ok to just say on the phone tomorrow that I don't want to do it, or will they say since you're now spoken to us about it we will charge you for wasting their time??
Any help with this would be very helpful, as this is the last thing myself and my fiance need at the moment is to get conned
.
Thanks for any help
Ashleigh.

ambulance chasser which has bought your dataDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Yeah I'm beginning to realise that now

But I can't be charged for the just ringing me up about it can I?0 -
Not unless you have agreed to anything.
To answer the other question, the Third Party Insurers (TPI) may want to know if youre claiming or not so they can decide if to close their files or not. Perhaps the TP himself decided not to claim but notified his insurers, he's chasing them up to close the file as his renewal is coming up and wants to know if his NCD is going to be impacted or not.
The one thing we can say for sure is that the TPI haven't contacted the ambulance chasers and asked them to contact you! They will have bought your details from someone and thus cold calling to try and get you referred to a solicitor for a juicy personal injury claim or credit hire provision.0 -
are you claiming for damage to the car and also personal injury?
If you are not claiming Personal Injury and your damage is less then £5000 then I dont think they will be intrested.
If you do claim personal injury I recon they will take it all the way to court as it would be hard to get hurt from a traffic jam.0 -
He rang back about an hour ago. Said that that they can't go ahead without the other parties car registration number, and I asked why they didn't have it since it was the other companies insurance that contacted them, and he said we've lost some of the details and then sounded very sheepish. I said that I've changed my mind and don't want to go ahead with it since you've just bought the claim details from somewhere (by the info they had, I can assume it was my OWN insurance company that have sold them), which he replied "What? Forget it, thanks for wasting my time" and hung up and was quite rude. Guess it's over.
@InsideInsurance - No I never agreed to anything, they just kept passing me along a chain of phonecalls from one member of staff to another to a solicitor saying "we'll get this sorted for you"
@Alistair.Long - I'm not sure what they were after to be honest, they kept on about the damage to the car so I guess it was damage to my car they were after? They did mention something about medical something or other but never got round to speaking about that.
Glad the stress is over, I'll be wiser for the future! :j0 -
They make their money by selling you as a hot lead to solicitors for personal injury claims or to hire car companies as a credit hire lead both of which can be reasonable monies - solicitors are around the £750 mark, credit hire about £50 (from memory).
Your insurers could have sold the details but accident repair centres/ garages are very keen at doing it too if you've had the damage looked at anywhere plus the plethora of others0 -
Its probably that reason they got quite rude to me then! No guilty feelings of wasting their time since they were lying to me from the start!
The accident repair centre could be the one that did it also then! They kept hassling me months ago saying get it reparied now before the insurance decision since he has "admitted full liability" when he hadn't according my insurance company and his insurance company when I called to double check!0
