Hedge and neighbours

Are they allowed to trim the top off?
Not if its on your land.0 -
My husband has just come home from work and decided to build a 2m high fence down the boundary. We can grow what we want on our side, and they can grow what they want on their side. Problem solved

Mrs Imp,
Please don't think that I was making accusations against you. I'd never do that. I was only trying to make you and others aware of the reasons why some councils prefer low hedges. I apologise if I offended you. It wasn't my intention.0 -
I wish I had some of your problems.. I had a neighbour who's trees were at least 40 ft high (willow) and it caused a massive rift when I asked him to cut the branches back to the boundary line.. He totally refused so one afternoon, my better half climbed up the tree and chopped off all the branches that came over onto our garden.. Because of the height of his trees, our garden (and others) were totally shaded and there was nothing we could do about it. We made sure he got the branches back as you are not allowed to keep them (in case you are stealing them for firewood) .. we actually placed them on his garden... The only saving grace we had is when one of the trees actually toppled over and fell right up his garden and just missed his house .. The rest of the trees were chopped down and then harmony reigned again.. I don't have a problem with trees in gardens but some people (especially my neighbour) don't realise how high some of them can grow and the misery they can cause - not to mention the damage...
Just thought I would add my tuppence worth..

I can sympathise as my neighbour did similar, they'd asked about chopping down the hedge on our boundary and we said we'd rather not as it would require us to replace our current fencing, plus we like the privacy and look of it. We said they could cut it back to 6ftish if they wished as it was higher from when we moved in but they didn't.
After that conversation when they cut their side the trimmings were slung over into my garden which i felt was petty as they've the council compost bin to put it. I've a hedge on other side which is the neighbours which was massively overgrown (they don't garden at all) and i dealt with the huge amount of clippings/branches i'd trimmed myself, they wouldn't notice if i dumped them over but it just seems rude to me in the case of hedges not to sort it yourself.
They shouldn't be lowering the hedge without your permission
I found this site useful onboundary Hedges0
