Argos Laptop Horror

My laptop of 8 months started cutting out and was really hot underneath. After reading a lot of blogs etc, it all pointed to broken fan. The laptop was under warranty and I might add in an immaculate condition. I took it to my local Argos store who sent it away for repair. They didn't require the box (original packaging that I took it to the store in). I have received a telephone call 2 weeks later from the store saying it would cost me £96 to repair the laptop as the technicians deemed it as being damaged due to being dropped and that screws were also shorn off. I visited the store and was lucky enough to encounter the girl who first served me and also the girl who packaged the laptop and sent it off for repair. I discussed my dismay that the laptop was pristine and that there were no signs of damage when I left it with them. They are asking for the techies to send it back to the store for us to inspect. How can I prove where the damage came from. Am kicking myself as I should have taken a photo of the laptop from every angle before I sent if off. Any advice would be grateful for when I return to the store to inspect the laptop.

Do you have the laptop you sent back's serial number, so you can make sure it is the same one?0

As it's over 6 months, you would have to provide your own independent evidence that the fault is not caused by accidental damage. But let's hope that the store will fight your corner enough to avoid having to do thatSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
