Have you tried the co-op basic account? Other users seem to be ok with that one.
I am sure someone else will be along to advise with experience on this.Leason learnt :beer:0 -
I have awful credit, but got accepted for halifax basic account. Really no frills. I've ran my acccount well for 6 months, and now when I lost my card they sent a visa electron instead of a cashcard (chuffed)
So it's worth trying. If it's to get things paid in could you try opening a post office account? This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
Current Pay Off Target : £1500 :mad:0 -
We went there and they turned us down. I think I might give the co-op a chance. We need to move our money that gets paid in so that the bank we are with can't get out loan payment. We were told to do this by Citizens Advice.0

are you on the electoral roll?
make sure you explicitly ask for a Basic a/c0 -
Yes we are on the electoral roll.
All we want is an account to pay our bills with and pay our wages into.
No cheque book, no cards except one to get money out of the machine in the wall with.0 -
I (and a lot of other people) have been accepted for a Citibank Sterling Account with Visa Debit cards and we all have really poor credit history. It might be worth a try and you can apply online.
There is a thread on it on the Budgeting and Bank Accounts forum, sorry I don't know how to give you the link!0 -
If you apply for the CitiBank account through Quidco you also get a £50 referral bonus.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

Thanks to everyone, I applied on the phone to the co-op and the application seems to have gone through ok. All we have to wait for are the letters informing us the documents they need for ID purposes and I was told I could take them to the post office to have the photocopied and verified.
Maybe there is a God up there after all.
Thanks.0 -

Nationwide is another one you could try if the co-op do not come through for you. You can get their flex account with just a card to draw out the hole in the wall. It can also be linked to an e savings account which will transfer cash from one account to the other instantly over the internet. I use it with several different 'pots' for car tax, holidays etc......brilliant. Have had it for 2 years now,we use it when we go to France, I load my card with money and then draw out as I need it, you do not pay for this service unlike all the banks who charge 2.5% for drawing out of a hole in the wall abroad. I can also pay using the card as a debit card when shopping.
Having said that we do also run an account with a major bank, but thats because we get free travel and AA cover until my OH is 80, once he reaches that milestone I will be closing that account and moving everything to Nationwide. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0
