I am thinking about taking the family to visit Beamish. Does anyone have any helpful advice that they can offer including holiday accomodation in the Beamish area for a family of 6, CHEERS!

Would advise getting there early as it can get really crowded at weekends/bank hols/summer etc.
We went last year (4 adults & 2 kids) & joined the friends of Beamish club for £24. Admission cost us £72 in total (inc 1 free adult, 2 half price adults, 1 full price adult & 2 kids), not a great saving compared to £78 if you don't join the club but the £6 is better in your pocket than theirs. The discount is also valid for a year, so a 2nd visit would be an even bigger saving (especially if you loan you membership card to friends like I do). You are supposed to live in the North East but they don't check for proof so if you know an address in Northumberland/Tyne & Wear/Co Durham then it may be worth a shot.

Take a picnic- its not that the food is really pricey but there aren't many outlets- a tea room, ice cream van, sweet shop & Pub- selling pints of Beamish of course!
Its worth the visit though for both adults & kids.0 -
There's a number of farm cottages in County Durham, depending on how close you want to stay to Beamish.
The nearest big hotel would be the Beamish Park Hotel, but I think that's quite pricey. There is a Travel Lodge on the A1(M) at Washington Services, which is a few minutes drive away.
If you want total luxuary, try Lumley Castle at Chester le Street, but that is very very expensive!
Durham would probably be a good base. There is a wide range of priced accomodation there, and it is a lovely city to wander round. If you want real cheapness try Durham University who offer low cost bed and breakfast.
Aim to get to Beamish for it opening at 10am. There is so much to see and do there, so you will find you need a whole day to view it all. As mentioned, eating places are limited, but there is plenty of open space to eat a picnic.
Also there's lots of walking about, so make sure everyone wears comfy shoes!
Hope you have a lovely trip

Hello
We went last year with a just 3 and 1 year old. To see most things you have to get there as it opens and leave as it closes.
I'm sure that annual membership was the same price as a day - but they don't state that as you go in - so do ask.
We found that there wasn't a great choice of food and drinks. Our son is very additive etc sensitive and it's the first and last time we let him have the fruit shoot drinks from Robinsons. Great place for a picnic though.
Lots to see and well worth it - we really enjoyed it and it poured with rain half the time. You get a go on the steam train and the tram - we went on twice - upstairs for a tour and down . The children loved it - the only thing we paid for other than food was a go on the merry go round - but our little ones didn't like it and chocolate from the sweet shop.
It was busy - half term! we stayed at Travelodge for £25 - it's okay not great but okay. Sunderland was great for fish and chips on the sand!0 -
