Windows Media Player on Vista - Codec missing

I have some videos that won't play as Windows Media Player (on Vista) I get a message that an audio codec is missing.
I followed the link to the web help and it says that the Intel IMA ADPCM (11) codec is not installed on my computer. Is there a way round this? I don't really want to go on the internet and download a file that might contain a virus.

Download VLC player - this usually plays the videos that other players have problems with.0

Have a look at post 4 here. I have had no problems since I downloaded it!

You are obviously a person who knows very little about how to conduct themselves on a forum.0 -
..and if VLC won't play it, Media Player Classic probably will. Between the two, you can play 99% of all file formats, they're both free so get them both......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

I have downloaded VCL. It was easy to find, download, install and subsequently use. And it works!

VLC is definitely the best media player, I can vouch for that. I haven't found 1 format it hasn't played.
Bran Flakey is definitely trolling. VLC runs pretty much all video and music files and works alot faster and easier then WMP.0 -

TBH, it's mainly obscure digital camera video formats it doesn't like, but I've found media player classic can usually do them...hence why I said if vlc can't, mpc probably will......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Oh no it isn't :rotfl:
MPC Home Cinema Edition with K-Lite is the best video player out there :money:
KMPlayer if you need all the tweaking bells n whistles & like big subtitles on your foreign films.
VLC's ok but the audio/HD/standard playback is well ropey compared to the above.
p.s. AVForums agree :T0
