end of rentsmart agreement - still taking DD!

Options
Hello,
My OH is self employed and we have a RS agreement for our laptop and camcorder..
We've always had problems with RS, which have pretty much been down to us being conned by the person in PC world that sold it to us and us not reading things properly... things like the agreement in writing being a year longer than what the person in pc world said etc.. but that was our fault for not checking!
Anyway just over a month ago we realised that we must be near the end of our agreement so we phoned RS and they said that August would be our last payment, we then get the option to keep the items for a payment of £250 (which is rediculous for items that are 4 years old... plus the person in pc world at the time said it would be around a months payment which is £51..) or we will get the option to send them back or carry on renting them..
We decided that there was no way we would pay £250 so we would send them back and buy a new laptop from somewhere else..
We guessed (stupidly) that we would get something in writing about this detailing dates we would need to send the items back by, address to send it to etc ... but no, nothing, no letter at all from RS! Checked my bank today and the DD has been taken again even though it was supposed to finish last month and we have received no letters explaining what are options are.
My OH has just come off the phone to RS who said that because he phoned last month they havent bothered to write to him with his options and presumed he wanted to carry on renting ... I'm currently trying the cancel the DD..
Does anyone know if they can do this? Surely they should send something in writing? I guess if you are not on the ball they would take the payments forever.
They have also given us an address to send the items back at our own cost!!!
Is there anything I can do ...surely this is wrong?
2012 wins = £933 :j
2013 wins so far = £4,025 :j

July wins: Holiday to Marbella :j

Im not sure what you think would have happened from the highlighted part
all of these options would no doubt be paid out in the initial agreement documents
as with most agreements of this type it would revert to a rolling contract after the minimum period
you havent cancelled it or returned their goods
so of course the payments will continue
why wouldnt you think you would be paying to return the goods?
make sure you use a fully tracked and insured service
  • yes we knew that they were the options, but we have never been told in writing or verbally by what date we would need to return the items by or to which address and we have never been told in writing ONLY verbally what the settlement amount would be.
Its very unclear and very unfair.
From our conversation with RS a month ago my OH was under the impression that it was around the end of September that he would need to send the items back by, but there was no mention that a DD would come out in Sep for the privilege.

sorry but you need to be proactive
you have had this agreement for 4 years
plenty of time to sort out what was required and how to action that
these are big companies looking to make money from you
unless you explicitly cancel and follow up the required actions
they will take your money gladly
