Claiming from Nationwide

Hi All.
Im new here, and am interested in claiming back PPI from an old loan I had with Nationwide.
The problem is I dont have, or cant remember much detail about it!
I took it out in about 2004, for about £4000. I cant remember how long it was over initially, but I do know I then borrowed extra money in the form of a 'top up loan' for about £2000. Again I cant remember how long the repayment terms were over.
Where do I start?

Hi Nick and welcome
If you can try getting hold of the account number of the loan and know you were paying for ppi and mis sold, then you can give it a go without the requirement of the paperwork as such.
If you no longer have the loan account number but still with the same bank where you paid the loan direct debits from, you can call into the bank who may try checking these details for you by you just enclosing them your account number.
Or online banking, this may allow you to go back to about 2002. The loan account number is normally shown next to the monthly repayment.
If your still paying for the loan you could try writing and enclosing a £1 postal order or cheque payment and ask them to provide you with a copy of the loan agreement by 12 days.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Thanks for your reply.
I am no longer with Nationwide.
The loan was paid off a few years ago.
I will go and have a hunt in the loft in a minute to try and find my account number, but Im not hopeful!
Is my final option to go to the bank direct and ask for these details?

Hi Nick
I had a credit card with them paying ppi insurance after I was told I wouldn't be able to have the card without it back in 1998.
I applied for a refund to be told no as they only keep 6 years worth of statements and I didn't have any copies, even tho I had been sent a letter from them stating that my refund had been upheld.
I wish you better luck then me

Its amazing the amount of useless stuff you move with you from house to house!
Just found a few old statements and letter from nationwide which details loan account number. However, there are no details of loan amount (apart from the monthly figure i paid by DD) or repayment period.
Do I need these details to progress as Di3004 suggests? If you can try getting hold of the account number of the loan and know you were paying for ppi and mis sold, then you can give it a go without the requirement of the paperwork as such.0 -
Also...
Everybody says to email your bank. Why not ring? Is phoning them up and requesting all my previous bank details a bad idea?0 -
You can ask but do not be surprised if they no longer have it.0
