Single working parent

Hi, I am 25 and due my 1st baby in December. I work full time but I am not with babys father. Please does anyone know what benefits etc I am entitled to whilst I am on maternity and also if i will be eligible for any grants I earn £18000 a year? I have tried to use the benefits check but they are so confusing :(.

Thanks in advance :)

Congrats! Do you live alone? Rent/mortgage? How many hours do you do? You will get SMP on that wage anything else will depend on living arrangements I think. I claimed WTC, CTC, HB and CTB whilst on maternity leave and I got the £500 maternity grant too - I was on £25K a yr but made tax credits go on an estimate for the current yr due to the rules surrounding income disregard whilst on maternity leave x

Yet another raging over reaction. She works full time and puts money into the system every month. Why the hell should she not get some back?
  • You should check your firm's policy as some offer packages over and above the SMP (as long as you return to work afterwards, otherwise it's usually repayable).

It's not an unfair question to ask about contributions from the father though. You didn't make the baby on your own. Even if you are not together, he still should be contributing financially to the child.
