Quick query re my switch
I am in the process of switching to EDF Energy's Price Fix 2014.
Today I received a letter from my current supplier (Southern Electric) saying they are sorry that I am leaving and will I please telephone them within the next 7 days - WHY?
From everything I have read it sounds like EDF do all of the commmunicating with the old supplier, so now I am a bit confused.
Don't I just give my readings to EDF when I get the letters from them conifrming my switch date, or is my understanding totalling wrong and I have to contact Southern Electric as well?
I am sure I read somewhere that it is a bad idea to give the readings to both companies as it complicates everything.
Many thanks.

Officially, their reason will be that if you give Southern your reading just before changing then if there is any dispute over the final read then they have more information to sort it.
Unofficially, if you don't give them a call then it's much harder for them to convince you to come back to them for supply.I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
No you do not have to speak to Southern at all. EDF do all that for you.
Most of the losing suppliers do this so that they can try and persuade you that they have a tariff cheaper than your new one.
Incidentally there is a thread on switching to EDF fix 2014 (think it is called "any positive experiences") there are useful comments from people who are currently switching or have just switched.0 -
I guess they want you to call them because they do not have your telephone number. I got a call from them when I switched - they offered me a 9% discount to stay. I rejected.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0

Thanks, I will let EDF sort it all out.
I logged into account I have set up with EDF and it says there that my electricity supply will switch to them on 21st Sept and my gas on 29th Sept!
Is it normal for the switch to be on separate dates for gas and electricity? Just seems a bit odd to me.:eek:Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Yes perfectly normal. Gas usually takes longer to switch.0
