Options
Hi everyone,
i moved into my new house recently. I called mpas and npower does my electric my gas transporter is GTC so i called them and they say scottish power is the supplier. So i called scottish power and they say they dont supply GTC's records must be correct. ive called BG, nPower, Scottish and southern and powergen and they all dont supply. i know there is a few others but thats a slim chance. person we bought the house off says scottish power.
could this be eronious(sp) transfer? what can i do to resolve it with minimal effort as im a busy boy

Um, sorry nothing comes to mind, apart from perhaps doing a uswitch search and calling up some of the companies returned in that. Alternatively, if you can contact the person you boubht the house from, ask them for some sort of proof (bill or something) that shows who's been paid for the gas, contact that company. surely if they're being paid for something they'd have the customer's details on their books?
sorry I can't be of more helpKnow me for who I am, not for who I say I am.0 -
If GTC say Scottish Power are the supplier, then they are. If they are denying it I would just hop on energyhelpline and switch the gas to the cheapest company on there, then wait to see what happens. Make sure you keep a reord of the gas meter reading from when you moved in for the next two years in case SP update their records and decide to send you a bill.
When comparing suppliers, make sure the quotes given reflect the fact you are with an independent gas transporter (GTC) - nPower, Powergen and Scottish Power charge surcharges of up to £40+vat per year. BG and Scottish & Southern don't charge one, EDF don't charge one if you are a dual fuel customer. I'm not sure about Ebico but I would have thought it unlikely they would add a surcharge.
It wouldn't be an erroneous transfer, that is when a company starts supplying but has to return it to the previous supplier, for example if there is a sales complaint or used the wrong MPR etc.0 -
Call GTC back and ask them for your MPR number (meter point reference). Scottish Power should then be able to locate an account relating to your home. If its a new build then they might still have your house listed under the builders plot address.0
