Just purchased a 2 bedroom mid terraced property and have contacted British Gas with the meter readings for both Gas and Elec on the day of completion. However, i believe at the moment we are on a standard tariff.
How do i go about into understanding the best supplier to use? I think ideally we would like to pay a fixed direct debit price (Are these called online dual savers?). Any good places to go for comparison?

Firstly you need to remember that "fixed direct debit price " only fixes the amount you pay each month until they review your consumption and then the amount can vary. This payment method also requires you to check every bill and make sure the meter readings used are A(ctual) not E(stimates) and submitted readings if they are based on an estimate. If you dont you could be back on here in a year or 2 complaining about a huge DD increase due to receiving a 'catch up' bill.
In terms of choosing a supplier you need to try and find out the previous annual consumption or just use the industry average but you then need to bear in mid that the figures quotes will be correct in pence per unit etc but not necessarily in the amount you will have to pay annually if your consumption does not match that used on the comparison site.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
