Facebook E-commerce Page.

Options
Hi,

I've just had a phone call offering me a 50 page facebook e-commerce business page for £99 a year.

Now i already sell on facebook through my normal facebook business page and to be honest sales aren't that great. They're better in my Ebay shop but then the fees for that are massive.

I'm just wondering if anyone has one of these pages? I'm worried that there's not enough people buying on facebook. They did say that everytime i posted on the page it would go onto the likers walls so their friends could see.

    Don't waste your money.

It would be easier to have your own website - you can do it with wordpress because that has the added advantage of you being able to blog about your items. I know that I have a paypal button on my site and sell spaces on events through it - it seems to work ok and I get business from it.

People have tried to get me to have a facebook page for my business but I tend to use facebook as a fun thing and use Google+ and LinkedIn for business (although you cannot sell on these).

If you are selling handmade items have you thought about using Etsy or Folksy?
  • google 'wix' they have a build your own site system and its free if you don't mind the ads.
  • Maybe I don't understand exactly what they're offering you but it doesn't sound like something worth paying £99 for. I'd be wary of anyone randomly phoning me and asking for cash. Keep using your own fb business page, look up a page called 'send in the troops' for networking and getting more traffic to your page. There's loads of free or cheap sites to sell on, ebid is the one I did best on. Not many buyers from within ebid itself but loads of buyers found my shop through google.

I have never used it but have tried viewing some business pages built using it as I wanted to be their customer. It wasn't a happy experience.

If you really want an ecommerce presence on Facebook just use the Payvment app. Its free and reasonably easy to set up.

Personally I don't think Facebook is ready for ecommerce on a large scale yet. It certainly has the potential due to the sheer number of users but people don't really associate Facebook with shopping yet. Give it a year or two and it could be huge, but just not yet.
