23mpg?? Blimey man, how hard do you have your foot on the pedal? My 300bhp Scooby Impreza could crack 30mpg on the motorway.
All cars suggested so far are fine. Look at the taxi drivers for evidence of the Skoda being cheap and comfy.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Can't really add anything but get rid of that 206 asap. 23mpg is a joke, not to mention how much you've been paying for maintenance. With such a high mileage would it not be cheaper to hire a car until you properly buy a new one? And btw, you'll probably get £150 scrap for the 206 if you were wanting to do that, maybe a little more on ebay if you can be bothered.0

At nearly £600 a week in expenses, it would be cheaper to keep the 206. The excess milage charge on the hire car would kill you.0

Look for a diesel rep-mobile, they are built from ground up to munch miles.
Vectra,
mondeo tdci (But only the 110hp)
passat tdi
all average around 40 mpg urban and 50 on a run
Ps the 110 mondeo does not suffer the flywheel problems on a scale of the 130bhp
Think they over egged the cake on the 130 with a dual mass set upHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Take your pick from Vectra, Mondeo, Octavia, even Focus, but if your not fixing the car yourself, change garages. If your Pug is only giving you 23mpg, they really are doing something seriously wrong.
If you're gonna look at bigger cars let me chuck in the accord (yes i am a honda fan!)
same engine as the civic, more space, super comfortable, and again absolutely awesome on the motorway for mpg. like the octavia its only £125 a year tax...0 -

I thought my 150 mile a day commute was long!
I've had an 04 plate Mondeo 2.0 TDCi for two years now, bought it with 90k on the clock for £1,500 (was a CAT C) and then paid another £1,600 to get it on the road.
It's now at 160k and I get around 60 MPG on the motorway, apart from new tyres, brake pads and a couple of bulbs it's been bullet proof.
Comfy to drive, the cruise control is a great asset too.
Funnily enough I did own an MX5 and did the commute in that a few times, the worst thing is the noise.:A0
