hi guys,
im looking into buying a new laptop but keep being told by people that it must have a decent graphics card to play the new games smoothly.
i was wondering if anyone had an idea what sort of graphics cards i should be looking out for/ avoiding when looking to buy.
p.s. i was looking to spend around £600 on a new laptop.

I wouldnt go for anything less than a 128mb card.. not sure with laptops, but i would suggest if ure playing games a desktop would be better, always upgradeable to a point (more than laptops)
Hope someone else can give u more info..If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.0 -
Sorry to say, but you are not going to be able to
on a £600 laptop.pennypicker wrote:play the new games smoothly
If you want to play "new" games on the move buy a psp, or spend £800+ on a laptop.
you are looking for things like
GeForce Go 7600/7900
avoid ati x1400, integrated graphics, intel Media Accelerator etc
Nothing wrong with integrated graphics on a laptop, they just do not work best for gaming.
Another thing you must be aware when thinking of gaming on a lap top is, you can not do it on your laptop, since they get extremely hot and need good air flow, they are tabletop devices when you start gaming on them.0 -

you can't generalise like that with a graphics card - yes, you might need one with 128mb ram, probably one with 256mb ram, but the more important feature is what card it is - you could buy a £25 graphics card with 256mb ram and it won't work anything like a £150 card with as much ram.
And yes as the other poster pointed out you won't get a laptop that will play the latest games smoothly for £600 - add about £1k to it and you're getting nearer the mark for a gaming laptop.0
